1. La biografia di Fiorenzo maestro è una biografia collettiva

Ho conosciuto Fiorenzo nei primi anni 60 all’Università di Torino. Lui, a 19 anni, era già insegnante di ruolo presso la scuola Nino Costa. Io, di tre anni più anziano, non avevo ancora deciso cosa fare nella vita.

A indirizzarmi dopo la laurea, nel 1964, verso il mestiere di maestro elementare, oltre che il bisogno di trovare una sistemazione stabile e retribuita, fu Fiorenzo che mi fece conoscere il Movimento di Cooperazione Educativa e mi fece vedere cosa stava facendo a scuola con i suoi 34 alunni e le tecniche della pedagogia popolare di Celestin Freinet. Alla Facoltà di Pedagogia di Torino nell’istituto diretto da Francesco De Bartolomeis, si studiava Dewey e le scuole nuove europee. Fiorenzo, fresco di nomina alla scuola elementare Nino Costa e appena iscritto alla Facoltà, si mise a disposizione di un gruppo di lavoro sulle tecniche didattiche di C. Freinet. Quel piccolo gruppo non solò studio a fondo le tecniche, ma produsse anche dei materiali didattici fra cui un interessante schedario autocorrettivo per l’apprendimento della letto/ scrittura. Il gruppo si espanse abbastanza rapidamente al di fuori dell’Università, divenendo una realtà associativa di insegnanti innovatori e sperimentatori piuttosto importante per la città di Torino e dintorni. Alcuni incontri con i “grandi” del MCE contribuirono ad accrescere l’interesse della scuola torinese per questa nuova realtà associativa.
